The New York Rangers visit the Ottawa Senators tonight at 7 p.m. ET, featuring milestone chases by Adam Fox and Tim Stutzle alongside a sudden goaltending change for the home side.
The matchup carries significant divisional implications for both teams early in the campaign. With Ottawa forced into a sudden roster adjustment in the crease, the visiting New York squad aims to capitalize on the instability. Meanwhile, individual milestones loom large for key skaters on both rosters as they pursue historic benchmarks.
Adam Fox enters the contest seeking another dominant offensive stretch. The star defenseman needs a multipoint outing tonight to record six points over consecutive games for the fourth time in his NHL career. Fox anchors the Rangers' defensive unit alongside veteran presence Brian Leetch, who previously set high standards for franchise blueliners.
Milestone Chases and Roster Changes
Tim Stutzle approaches a notable milestone on the power play for the Senators. The dynamic forward needs one power-play goal to pass Jochen Hecht for sole possession of the third most by a German player in league history, trailing only Leon Draisaitl and Marco Sturm on the all-time scoring list.
Jonas Johansson draws his first start in goal for Ottawa after receiving a recall from the American Hockey League. This change follows an injury to Linus Ullmark, who holds a 3.29 goals-against average and an .884 save percentage across six appearances this season. Travis Green has shuffled his forward lines in response to the injury.
Defensive Adjustments on Road Trip
Andre Burakovsky slots into the Ottawa lineup tonight, replacing Hayden Hodgson among the active forwards. The Senators also prepare for a challenging stretch away from home. Thomas Chabot will join the team on their upcoming five-game road trip with the expectation of returning from an upper-body injury.
Following tonight's matchup, the Senators will prepare for their demanding five-game road trip across the continent. The Ottawa coaching staff evaluates fitness levels daily before finalizing travel rosters for the upcoming away matches.
As the Rangers and Senators clash, all eyes will be on the milestones being chased and the strategic adjustments being made ahead of a crucial phase in the season.
