Kimi Antonelli claimed pole position for the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, defeating Max Verstappen during a tense qualifying session in Austin.

The Italian driver clocked a blistering lap of 1m34.035s to edge out Verstappen by 0.179 seconds. This performance places Antonelli in a prime position as he targets his first Formula 1 world title, setting the stage for a dramatic race day at the Texas circuit.

Kimi Antonelli expressed satisfaction after securing pole, stating, "It feels good to be back." His race engineer, Peter Bonnington, admitted surprise at the pace, saying, "I wasn't expecting that" over team radio after the qualifying session.

Front Row Grid Battle

Max Verstappen struggled to find a competitive setup during the final runs. He noted, "Q3 was not good, Q1, Q2 were nice, but for whatever reason in run one and two just didn't have a nice balance." Despite the challenges, he acknowledged his P2 position, stating, "No mistakes, just not enough grip. But if it's still a P2, I take it." Isack Hadjar finished third, while Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five positions.

George Russell secured sixth place on the starting grid, staying ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson claimed ninth and 10th places respectively; however, Lindblad faces a five-place grid penalty for exceeding his season allocation of engine parts, impacting the final starting lineup for the main event.

Championship Momentum Ahead

Antonelli acknowledged the threat posed by his rivals as race day approaches. He stated, "We got pole so we will try to win tomorrow, but Max has been very quick and Isack did an incredible job, so it is not going to be easy." Team strategists expect a fierce battle off the line, as Antonelli added, "We try to get a good start and hopefully lead into Turn One and try to set the pace, even if it is going to be very tight."

With the championship implications hanging in the balance, the grid battle at the Circuit of the Americas promises an exciting race day ahead.
