Brady Tkachuk makes his highly anticipated return to the Canadian Tire Centre on October 22, 2026, to face the Ottawa Senators as a member of the Florida Panthers following a blockbuster trade earlier this year.
This matchup marks the first time Tkachuk faces his former team since being traded on June 21, where he requested to join the Panthers to play alongside his brother, Matthew Tkachuk, and to be part of a franchise regularly favored to contend for the Stanley Cup.
During his eight-season tenure in Ottawa, Tkachuk served as team captain and recorded 473 points, comprising 213 goals and 250 assists in 572 regular-season games. The trade to Florida involved three first-round draft picks, including two selections in 2026 and a conditional pick in 2029, along with a second-round selection in 2027 sent to the Senators.
The visiting Florida Panthers enter the game with a 5-2-2 record, while the Ottawa Senators boast a 6-3-0 record, setting the stage for a competitive clash between two Eastern Conference rivals.
Senators forward Drake Batherson downplayed any potential animosity regarding Tkachuk's departure, emphasizing that their personal friendship remains intact despite the trade. "Every player in the league is open to doing what they want," Batherson stated.
As the game approaches, players from both teams anticipate a physical and emotional matchup. "It's probably as close to a playoff game as you can get in October," remarked Panthers forward Nick Cousins, highlighting the intensity surrounding Tkachuk's return.
Senators head coach Travis Green acknowledged the unique atmosphere of the game, noting, "There always is when a player of that magnitude first comes back," as both teams prepare for a fierce divisional battle at the arena.
With the stakes high and emotions running deep, Tkachuk's return to Ottawa is set to be a memorable event in the NHL season.
